Driving efficiency: The role of a PMO in investment management

L2 Change+ Analyst, Benjamin Hassall, shares his experience working as a PMO Analyst at a global investment manager.

As a PMO, my role was focused on working with senior stakeholders across the Corporate Functions Technology (CFT) department to assess financial recharges.

Supporting financial targets

Within my department there were several individuals working on projects that were outside our scope of work. Given that our department was paying for these resources, we needed to recharge the out-of-scope work to the relevant business areas.

By collating all the relevant information from multiple data sources into a simple, easy to read format I could see what had already been recharged and what was still outstanding. With this in place, I then worked with contacts across the business to understand what the correct time apportionments and costing information were and agreed these with the relevant stakeholders

Through meetings and email correspondence with Project Managers and Leadership Team members, I ensured that the retrospective costs were agreed upon. By doing this I was able to successfully bring the CFT department in line with their budgetary requirements.

Holistic support

The support I have been given by Grayce has given me exposure to opportunities that I wouldn’t have normally been a part of, such as becoming a Boost Bar Lead. Here I coordinate the workload of 70+ Analysts, organised the Grayce ‘office days’ for Boost Bar members across both of our collaboration hubs, and being a key contact in liasing with senior Grayce stakeholders around specific project requests.

With regular catch-ups with my personal Grayce Delivery Manager, contact with other Grayce Analysts, and access to LinkedIn Learning and other training resources, I have been able to really develop my soft and hard skills throughout my time on the Change+ Programme.

Exceptional client feedback

“From the moment Ben joined he was a great asset to our team, always willing to do more and assist others with work. Always proactive and a reliable person to work with.”

“Ben played an important role in helping the team achieve its financial targets for the year. He was involved in the resource recharges process to ensure that all the recharges are captured and received. Overall, the experience has been really good working with Ben.”
