Are you empowering your Data Leaders to their full potential?

The role of Chief Data Officer (CDO) is now a firmly established capability in the C-suite. However, a recent Gartner survey found that there are still challenges in establishing data as a driver of business value in its own right. They recommended that CDOs focus on generating business value underpinned by data, rather than creating a separate data strategy.

Gartner’s 2023 survey of Chief Data and Analytics Officers found that the ability to attract and retain top talent was a key differentiator between high performers and those grappling with difficult challenges. The survey also found that talent shortages, a cultural aversion to change, and lack of training continually put the success of data and analytics projects at risk.

In terms of data literacy, the survey found that the highest performing leaders were those who:-

  1. Invested in HR analytics initiatives
  2. Invested more in resources and talent
  3. Made a commitment to people development

Furthermore, the survey also highlighted the importance of culture alongside skills as being key to help business users make decisions based on data; highlighting the importance of data literacy in giving them the confidence to achieve this.
